Historians have estimated Napoleon’s height based on a spy-hole he drilled in his closet. I, however, have estimated his height based on the title character from the 1958 movie “Attack of the 50 Foot Woman”.

1958 movie “Attack of the 50 Foot Woman”… A cult classic famous for the greatest ever alien encounter pick-up line “Take me to your ladder.”
Deriving Napoleon’s height from the spy-hole assumes he intended to peek through it himself. It is actually more likely that he installed a secret witness, equipped with pen and foolscap, in the closet for certain kinds of meetings.
Another possibility is that the famous “Ordre national de la Légion d’honneur, Grand Aigle” (about 15 awarded), included among its privileges the use of Napoleon’s private chamber for romantic trysts, while the lesser-known but more meritorious “Pour le Ferocitie en Satyrie, Grand Croix” (2 awarded) granted the use of the spy-hole during those selfsame trysts.
In any case, the spy-hole would be placed at a height to accommodate the shortest among those who would be using it.

“Engage the enemy more closely.” – Admiral Nelson’s final orders at Trafalgar. 🙂
And how did that final order work out for the one-armed, half-blind commander?
