Black-and-white thinking. The reason cavemen never can have nice things …

    Frank Harr says:

Amended note: Called le Dragon IN FRENCH.

I’d thought Ne was unnecessary in modern French, Pas was sufficient. On the other hand, this is, what, 183-something? And what do I know? I was a German major and in German, the -e ending for dative masculine nouns was still a thing in standard/educated German. So I take it back. Ce ne sont pas indeed.

    • mvandinter says:

Frank le Dragon Harr, German major! If I turn all the Frenchmen into Germans, will you do the translations? If not, do you have any French majors handy?

      • F
        Frank Harr says:

        Nem.

        😉

        • mvandinter says:

          NEM Not Elsewhere Mentioned
          NEM Normal Endosperm
          NEM Network and Enterprise Management
NEM Nutritionally Enhanced Meals (skilled nursing facilties)

          But which ONE?

          • J
            JuL says:

            NEM Normen Europäischer Modellbahner
            of course! 😉

            (German, but no major …)

            • mvandinter says:

Thanks JuL! It’s all clear to me now!
Normal European Modelling Standards (NEM) are standards for model railroads!
              Wait. What?

                Frank Harr says:

                MaaaaBY! 🙂

Have a look at some more languages.

O.K.! I’ll Talk! Stop . . stop doing that! I cant’ take it any more! I’m cracking up!

                It’s Hungarian for No.

P.S., the joke is, I’ve just read the episode of SSS where Babbet’s going to go and interrogate her family again. I didn’t say it was a good joke.

  3. Maju says:

All dragons are winged serpents… except Komodo ones, which have no wings.

    • mvandinter says:

      Very true.
It’s just that PUFF THE WINGED SERPANT doesn’t have the same ring as PUFF THE MAGIC DRAGON.
And PETE’S WINGED SERPANT sounds like a creepy double entandre (though that might make a more interesting remake of Disney’s PETE’S DRAGON).

        Just_IDD says:

Well that kids song some of us grew up thinking was just a sad song about change and growing up, was totally a reference to the artists (Peter Paul & Mary) loosing their innocence to the drug culture in the 1960’s. It came up on their 25th anniversary reunion show on PBS in the mid 80’s.

Also interesting idea for a comic. I kinda like Alice, but I think I would be bludgeoned to death by her by now.

    • J
      JuL says:

Actually, as much as i like winged dragons, chinese dragons don’t necessarily have wings …

      • mvandinter says:

Well I take back my other “True” to agree with you, JuL.
Chinese and other Asian dragons are often magical or deistic beings who fly without wings. I need to get me one of those!

  4. T
    Thorin Schmidt says:

Are there any two-headed Double Dragons in Unearth?

  5. T
    The Daughter says:

hi papa this new page is great love anna

  6. T
    Thorin Schmidt says:

How old is Anna, and should I start exercising restraint? I already think twice before posting things, but I could start thinking thrice.

    • mvandinter says:

The discourse on Unearth has remained civil and intelligent since the beginning… for which I’m grateful. I knew from the beginning that while my daughters aren’t the target demographic for Unearth, I wasn’t going to post things online I wouldn’t feel comfortable with them seeing.

My daughters have been proof-reading the comic for years (mostly answering the question: “Does this make sense to you?”). They often tell me that their school classmates are infinitely more vulgar than anything on Unearth.

So, Thorin, you’re good! Great, in fact! Thank you for reading and supporting this silly project!

      • T
        Thorin Schmidt says:

Well great! That’s a relief. Being a high school teacher, I try to make sure that I expose as many of our youth as possible to stimulating, thought-provoking, wholesome, and enriching Dad Jokes. Also puns. And, when I can manage it, both at the same time! Speaking of,,,

What is happening when your daughter keeps asking you to put her friends in your Unearth comic?

        An Anna-crony-ism…

        • mvandinter says:

          Thorin, as to cronyism:
I’m fairly certain no teenage girls read Unearth of their own volition, and so couldn’t care less about appearing in it.

      • F
        Frank Harr says:

“They often tell me that their school classmates are infinitely more vulgar than anything on Unearth.”

        I really believe that.

        • mvandinter says:

I was vile and horrible as a teenager… I just lacked the social media platform training to amplify and reinforce my awfulness.

  7. S
    Steve the Snail says:

I have to say, I love this comic!
But the real reason I’ve uncloaked: I’m pretty sure the 3rd speech bubble should start with “Ils sont…”, just like the 2nd sentence in the 2nd bubble: “They are…”
