    I recently realized that the cavemen learned French while the lizard people somehow all know and speak in plain English. Sorry if this was already addressed in the comments.

      It’s one of those things I’m looking forward to finding out about.

        We know there is s path to the surface on the lizardman side. That was established in the Prologue. And, when these Lizardmen eat someone they somehow absorb their knowledge and personality, as well as shrinking down to their size.
