    This feels so Roddy. 🙂

OK, was not expecting that. Guess he got bored now that he doesn’t have a brother to terrorize or a pretty lady and her little sister to try to seduce. Not that he was particularly good at either.

The Reverend Cyril Playfair was a character in the John Wayne film “The Quiet Man.” He was the vicar for the Irish village of Inisfree. His hobby was sports and he had done a bit of boxing in his younger days.

There is a climactic fight between Wayne’s character and the local squire, who was a bully. Rev Playfair makes a bet with the visiting bishop on the outcome of the fight.

It’s a really good film. You can find it on Youtube

Steve, It’s awesome to hear that someone else is a fan of THE QUIET MAN!
It is not just John Wayne’s best film by a WIDE margin, or John Ford’s best film either. It’s one of the best films of it’s era. And, yes, I stole the “Reverend Playfair” out of reverence.

Maureen O’Hara said this was her favorite film.
In addition to the beautiful Irish locations and wonderful accents, one of the things I like about it is that John Wayne isn’t just playing “John Wayne.” He’s a different sort of character from his usual cowboy tough guy.
The movie was sort of a family affair. Charles B. Fitzsimons (Hugh Forbes) and James O’Hara (Father Paul) were real-life brothers to Maureen O’Hara; Barry Fitzgerald (Michaleen Flynn) and Arthur Shields (Rev. Playfair) were real-life brothers; and Francis Ford (old Dan Tobin) was John Ford’s real-life brother.
A truly great film and Republic Pictures first and only film to receive an Academy Award nomination for Best Picture.

On a different subject, is Godfrey the butler a reference to William Powell’s character in “My Man Godfrey?”
