These Semi-Sequitur Illustration pages tend to pop up when I get bored of drawing the same backgrounds with the characters spewing perfunctory exposition.
Which you find yourself trapped in. The Latinization of English hadn’t progressed very far at this point. Godfrey might do it, but Philo’s an engineer at heart and not pretentious. I doubt the Marshal would have been taught that type of English at the onset.
It reads normally to me the way it is. Perhaps not period correct, I don’t know, but nothing stuck out or sounded off to me. Perfectly normal informal conversational English.
Well, it’s nice where everyone’s expectations have been set out.
When you way “Trapped”, I take it you mean that you’ll be letting us go back to the S.S. Blender with supplies to make repairs and wish us on our way. That’s awfully kind of you and I promise that we’ll never tell a soul that you’re down here.
Poor Philo. He can’t just say O.K., and not only because term hadn’t been invented yet. He had to get annoyed.
Right up to the point they get the dill working again. Or when Alice rescues them.
I can see the Marshal’s point. As soon as Napolionic France is known to be gone, then his local allies have to wonder why they’re listening to these bozos. And I doubt he has a good reason.
Mind you, the longer he keeps it under his hat, the worse it’ll be once it comes out.
There’s another comic I read and right now, there’s an eldrich terror and whenver describes him as such, he sais somethign like “I think you mean ‘Eldrich Studmuffen” and when one noted that they’re scarier when seen he noted that if they mean scarrily tenticed and handsom, he accepted the compliment.
The scene in the crack-open globe adds so much power to the panel. Well placed too, putting it under so that metaphorically it gains the weight of the discussion while being a visual context cue.
“In which you find yourself trapped”, if you please, good sir.
Indubitably. Harrumph. And so forth.

I’ve been thinking about whether or not to change the text to match Lee M’s suggestion.
“which you find yourself trapped in” is not a typo. It’s informal usage, which occurs in a lot of dialogue herein (in UNEARTH and On Earth).
I’m open to be convinced. Thoughts?

Do you think they could keep up the charade in the long run? I mean, UNEARTH does go on forever.

I’ve got to say, brilliant artwork. This page is really stunning. Well done!
Gee, thanks wintermute! I don’t get a lot of feedback on the artwork, so it’s nice to hear 🙂
