My first thought was that these ‘poachers’ must be good guys if they are speaking English. Then I thought back to the very start of the story and who this queen might be, and now I’m not so sure.
Suspicion is the best medicine.
Everyone down here who speaks English are probably Roddy’s schoolmates who were either undesirable or a threat and so were “disappeared”.
