He might have better luck if
A. the female in question didn’t already know him, and
B. the female in question hadn’t witnessed him proposing to another female in the last ten minutes.
“He might have better luck” – I think he is having perfect luck.
This is like trying to trip someone or other practical jokes he loves, he is trolling for a negative reaction rather than actually wanting to get married.
He loses when he gets ignored rather than strong emotional response.
I’ve made a lifelong study of this, and I’ve found that sociopaths (of both sexes) have spouses with “weak” personalities, characterized by sweetness and meekness.
Female of which species?
Good question! He may have better luck with a member of another species, who knows what they may find attractive (although I doubt it’s Roddy)?
To an adult female neanderthal, he probably looks like sizable meal.
To a female carnosaur, he probably looks like a small appetizer.
I said attractive, not appetizing! Although yours is admittedly more likely…
Brilliant idea Charlie. I’ll go get my blowgun, some darts, and some arsenic…
Not really, I don’t have any arsenic.
I’ll lend you mine. I’ll need the arsenic back, though.

C. the female in question was legally blind, partially deaf, and unreasonably optimistic.

Oooo. Insightful observation. Unearth readers are smarter than the author.
Has he proposed to Matilda yet?
Hi Sturzkampf! Welcome aboard!
Roddy had better be careful with Matilda (the cook from the prologue). She might just accept his offer, and she knows how to wield a butcher knife.
Voluntary submission? Oh yeah, marriage in renessaince times.
If you’ve got a landed aristocracy, you’ve got arranged marriages 😉
The thing I find awesome about Charlie, is that she managed to knock Roddy onto his butt while he was still on his KNEES…
Eh, physics-schmysics 😉
Oh, no. It’s totally possible, but only if you are awesome… which, I think we have seen, Charlie most certainly IS.
Also, I really love the detail of the anchor pin! So cool!
You know at some point, someone’s going to say Yes. And he won’t be happy.
Yes to him? Why wouldn’t he be happy about that?
Think of the nasty piece of work who wants to marry HIM.

That’s disappointing.
