February 2nd is my favorite holiday: Groundhog Day!Β Wait. What? That’s not a real holiday. It’s just a movie, right?

  1. Luces says:

Oh, oh. One small wheell to move the world! By the way, I just noticed that there are no more sections of “about” and “characters” in your banner. Makes it harder for newcomers to understand the plot, don’t you think, Matthew?

  2. Custom avatarMarlene S. says:

If you want to know more about Groundhog Day, I would advise contacting the creators of the webcomic – “Shadowbinders”
I do support Groundhog Day. You need celebration to brighten up one’s day.

  3. Thorin Schmidt says:

Anything that has an official Rankin-Bass, stop-motion-animated film about it is a real Holiday. #JackFrost

  4. Thorin Schmidt says:

Also, I hope those arrows are getting paid well…

  5. Hornet says:

Stupid rodent predicted 6 more weeks of winter.

    • mvandinter says:

Where I live now, there’s ALWAYS 6 or more weeks of winter, and where I lived previously, there was NEVER 6 more weeks of winter. It’s a latitude-specific holiday.

  6. TwoA says:

Don’t worry, something tells me you won’t have to babysit him too long.

Also, I think it should be “temperamental” in panel 2

    • mvandinter says:

      Proof-Reader Award
      Fixed now thanks to you!

And what do you suppose will happen that will put an end to the babysitting?

      • Thorin Schmidt says:

        Queenie’s Butler eats him?

      • Thorin Schmidt says:

        … squashed by a brontosaurus?

      • Thorin Schmidt says:

…Alice grabs The Toolbox and pulls out a flamethrower?

      • Thorin Schmidt says:

… the author takes a sudden dizzying plot twist that causes Philo to re-evaluate his entire life up to the present… re: Life, Humanity, Justice, and Common Decency… which causes him to suddenly grow a spine? nah, now I’m just talking crazy talk…. πŸ˜‰

      • Aslandus says:

Spontaneous conflagration? Wait no, he decides he doesn’t get paid enough for this and leaves before the drill starts…

Or maybe a thirty foot long snake sweeps through the drill and grabs him as it passes….

Or he forgets to turn the lights on and gets eaten by a grue…

Or he goes mad from claustrophobia and has to be put down with a wrench…

Or maybe he gets shooed off to guard Alice and Alice slips past him, leaving him on the surface while she and the rest of the crew have underground adventures…

really it’s up in the air at this point, I could go on but I don’t want to break the server or make the slider on this page too tiny…

    • Thorin Schmidt says:

Maybe he’s coining a new word… trying to combine temper and mental to describe Alice’s two main operating modes…

  7. Thorin Schmidt says:

… He winds up in the female Reptiliod bat5hroom and dies of a heart attack?

  8. Thorin Schmidt says:

Well, I didn’t make “first” today, but I might just have made “most prolific”…

    • mvandinter says:

      Most prolific?
      Yes.

Most avatars displayed on a single page?
      Yes.

Maxing-out the site’s ability to display comment replies?
      Yes.

  9. Thorin Schmidt says:

In looking at this page again, I’m forced to wonder at the converstaions that went into the design….
“So, Frank, We need to install a shutoff valve somewhere on this pipe. where should we locate it? close to the bulkhead here where someone could have stable footing and have good leverage?”
“Naw, Joe, I think we should locate it about 2/3 of the way up.”
“But, Frank, that would mean, in an emergency situation, anyone turning the valve would only be able to use one hand, while hanging dangerously off the ladder there. Not to mention that in most emergencies, this whole bucket is gonna be shaking like an epileptic belly-dancer. With it that high up, whoever falls is likely to die.”
“Yeah, that’s true Joe, but with it up there, it’ll be available if a little girl needs it to stand on so she can hide from someone.”
“Oh, I never thought of that Frank, sounds good to me. We’ll do it that way, then.”

    • mvandinter says:

I seriously considered designing the driller for functionality using sound engineering principals and then building a 3d model that could be rendered in perfect perspective for each comic frame. But then the effects of the electric Kool-Aid wore off.

      • Thorin Schmidt says:

That’s good. this would be a terribly dull story otherwise.

      • Custom avatarwintermute says:

Then you could use a 3D printer to make a scale model. An actual working prototype. A full sized version! Muuwahahahaaaaa!

        Ahem. Please disregard that.

        Carry on.

    • N8 says:

How do you know there’s not some kind of elevator (using pistons instead of pulleys,) that lets you reach it, or that it needs to be there because of the rest of the infrastructure?

  10. Custom avatarCrazyman says:

I love the avatars at the bottom of the page! I picked the butler because 1) Malcolm Butler saved the Super Bowl for the Patriots, and 2) I always wanted a butler. πŸ˜€
