    Frank Harr says:

But they ARE actually French. They’ll tell you so. It’s just that the other French people don’t talk to them that much.

That was a good shot. Someone should get her a contract. Just as soon as professional sports are invented.

Guess who showed up to validate my vote a few days ago? Charlie’s saucepan-wearing friend! That was exciting.

      No paragraph breaks, huh? O.K.

There’s no way Charlie’d get so lucky as to loose a shoe in the monster-infested river. And it clearly went deeper into the tower complex.

      (1) Does that mean all it takes for me to be French is to say “Voila! I’m French!”? (2) When do women historically start competing in Olympic Shotput? (3) You’ve made an ultra-rare TROLLBOY sighting! Congrats! (4) I used these numbered parenthesis in lieu of paragraphs.

        1. Well, when Prussia was wet to take Alsace-Lorraine in towns all over, people wen to the square to declare ,,Ich bin franzoesisch!” Which is German for I am French. So, it may not be determinative, but it is indicative. Besides, they know what size cooking-wear to cook a paticular egg in.

        2. No, that’s ameture. She needs a proper contract where she can get paid and everything. I’m thinking baseball or cricket.

        3. Woo-hoo!

        4. That’s cool. Let’s see if it works. I’m trying hard returns rather than shift-returns which Facebook has trained me to do. That might work too.

I must say, you have captured Godfrey’s expression of British concern to absolute perfection!

Regards the troll guards – are we to assume that they have tailor made cast iron uniform helmets? Or is the bonk sound Charlie’s shoe colliding with a rather sturdy skull?

    • mvandinter says:

You make a good point there. I was tempted to go with “DOINK”, but opted for the literary classic “BONK”. I’m a traditionalist. Does that answer your question? 😉

    • F
      Frank Harr says:

I’d expected the hats to be felt. They should have plenty of mercury down there.

      • E
        Erik Van Thienen says:

Those hats are shakos, and were made of heavy felt and leather, and usually adorned with some kind of ornamental metallic plate or badge on the front. They were heavy and impractical. So “BONK” is totally appropriate.

        • mvandinter says:

I readily defer to Erik’s evident expertise! And Frank’s too. In fact, I rely on my readers’ wealth of knowledge to make my artsy fartsy whims seem rational and well thought-out!

I suppose it only makes sense if their garb was provided (confiscated?) from Napoleon and company.

But if it were the trolls’ own uniform? Cast iron, I say! 🤣

          • mvandinter says:

How is the author going to come up with a plausible explanation for a bunch of cavemen recreating the Île de la Cité, let alone fashioning period-accurate Napoleonic infantry uniforms? It’s ridiculous, I say!
