    Erik Van Thienen says:

    – “la manche” : (clothing) ‘the sleeve’, (sports) ‘the round’, ‘the handle’

    – “La Manche” : ‘the English Channel’

“180?? sous La Manche” probably refers to Jules Verne’s book “20.000 lieues sous les mers” (‘20,000 Leagues Under the Sea’)

Vote Incentive: Does Roddy really ever produce any content that is not either Offensive or Inappropriate? Still, I am *shocked* that a proper young lady such as Alice would utter such a thing! 😮

I saved that comic to my hard drive, opened it up in Paint, and used the eraser to remove the censor bars, but it somehow erased the underlying text too! Any advice??

Perhaps you pressed too hard on the mouse button while erasing? Try using a lighter touch to only take off the surface pixels.

      • Thorin Schmidt says:

Still took it off. Maybe I can buy one of those art tablets with the varying sensitivity levels? I saw one on sale for about $200. If it works it’ll totally be worth it! A friend suggested I ask the author, but that seems like a lot of work to go through when there’s no guarantee that he’d even respond, much less actually tell me!

I don’t trust all that fancy new technology. The good old-fashioned tools work the best. Have you tried using a physical pencil eraser on the computer screen. That seems likely to do the trick. (I’ve heard that some of the newer screens have coating on them, so you may have to erase harder to get down to the actual image)

(Regarding asking the author, just between you and I, I’ve heard he’s a rather difficult fellow, so he’s likely not willing to part with the information, and even if he were, I doubt that he would be able to print such offensive or inappropriate language in the comments of a family-friendly webcomic such as this one. I would tell you myself, but I would never use such language either!)

          • Thorin Schmidt says:

No problem! I actually have an old CRT monitor that I can use. I need to use an eraser on it anyway to remove the buildup of whiteout….

    Donjonneau says:

« Génies sous la Manche » stands for the workers who built the “Tunnel sous la Manche” (a railway tunnel underwater) actually linking France and England.

Therefore, the events that will unfold on the next pages will be a fantasist reenactment of the real thing.
