Is this page nothing more than a metaphor for the youthful author’s disastrous attempts to impress females? If that’s true, he should add some blood and dismembered limbs.
What’s her problem? If there is a better use for one’s time than building one’s own 50ft tall catapult, I can’t even imagine what it would be.
” If there is a better use for one’s time than building one’s own 50ft tall catapult, I can’t even imagine what it would be.”
->Building a 200ft mole drill obviously.
Also; that looks like a giant hamster wheel in the last version. I want to see the hamsters that power it!
Dino-hamsters from The Center of the Earth!
Aha! Now we see his motivation: He constructed the giant digging machine solely to get to the dino-hamsters, without which his previous invention would not work. Brilliant!
The “Hamster Cage” would have had people in it to crank the arm of the trebuchet down. The largest I’ve seen illustrated was intended for draft horses, and it was for artillery as well.
A friend of my mine made car-sized catapults as art projects in grad school. At one art show he splattered the walls of the gallery with any object people had handy. I don’t believe anyone surveyed the crowd to see if women were among the those howling with drunken laughter.
50 foot trebuchet. These devices have counterweights – clearly seen in all three models. 😉
It’s a hard road to find a woman who will appreciate your hobbies.
Or at least, resist the urge to mock them.
Though I understand now his fear of her.
Will the next update explain his fear of squirrels?
It always seemed unfair that women didn’t appreciate my talent for drawing heavy-metal zombies.
I just noticed the opposite color scheme both of them have. It’s pretty neat.
If he’s been trying to impress her his whole life, why is he trying to avoid her now? Or is it that she just tends to show up and insult his equipment (manhood?) right after he finishes building it? Why is she so determined to see a person when she seems to have no interest in his activities? Or is it all just a coy little game they’re playing? I am full of questions. I don’t expect any answers.
You will get answers to the most important of these questions soon… at least “soon” in Unearth terms… page 69-72, actually.
I believe that would be starting March 3rd, for those few of you who have, inexplicably, not switched to keeping time by Unearth strip number and are still using the old, archaic, obsolete system.
Did you have have to add the date, Ed8? Ouch!
I suppose you could always prove me wrong by posting 2 strips a week. That would sure put me in my place! 😉
That would put me in my place too. And that place would be the unemployment line, as I would have to quit my job to make time to do 2 pages a week.
I know what you mean. I spend so much time at work I hardly have time to leave smart-alec comments on web sites and make unreasonable demands of webcartoonists any more.
He certainly seems fixated on trebuchets! Then again, what young man doesn’t like big guns?
Too true! I grew up wearing a quick-draw holster and a ready pair of plastic six-shooters 😉
On the plus side, she’s getting less violent as she gets older. On the doubleplusgood side, she’s showing enough of an interest to insult him. In some quarters that counts as a victory.
Stay tuned: Alice’s violent tendencies may not have completely subsided. Also, thanks for reading and commenting 🙂
“Focus your attention on *me*, not these stupid machines!” At least, I think that’s what she’s trying to say. 🙂
