Well now, Godfrey, in all fairness, however much Miss Alice may motivate Philo, everyone should be motivated to make sure the only way out isn’t further damaged or otherwise becomes no more useful than an actual iron heap.

Sounds like somebody’s really in love even though they don’t want to admit it. I think Godfrey, our consummate English butler, see that and is just playing along. Although, I think it’s going to be a long, loooong time before we see any romantic interaction between Philo and Alice.

On another note, very nice to see another page added to this saga. Are we approaching chapter two yet? Also, why are we worried at all about the ship? why not just take the tunnel back to Paris? No never mind that, that would be to easy.

      In order:
      — It will be a looooooooooong time before this story turns into a romantic comedy
      — Unearth is approaching the end of Chapter 3
      — I should hope they would return to the ship to collect Alice and the crew before heading up the tunnel to Paris
      — A tunnel to Paris? That sounds awfully suspicious, doesn’t it?

  6. Thorin Schmidt says:

This page is just more fuel for my argument that rather than Godfrey being a Perfect Butler, he is instead that rarest of the breed; the Perfectly Evil Butler.

    • mvandinter says:

Argument? Who have you been debating the topic with? Is there an Evil vs. Good Godfrey Society out there? How do I join?

P.S. My own feeling is that Godfrey is the only actual Adult among the whole cast of characters.

      • Thorin Schmidt says:

I suppose it is less an argument and more of a Pet Theory combined with the occasional Rant. My previous entries on the topic were done back during the Prologue. I think. It’s been awhile.

    Vic says:

    Claire: And the slower ones?
    Godfrey: Didn’t.

We have a saying in America:
“I don’t have to be faster than the bear, just faster than you.”

This turn of phrase says so much about my compatriots.
    – We seem to feel it likely we will be chased by a ravenous bear at any particular moment.
    – If we are, we will be accompanied by a conveniently disposable companion.
    – Grammar is less important than opportunistic bear-avoidance.

    America! Land of pragmatists!
(And of bizarrely coiffed, puerile and shockingly misinformed government leaders.)

Upon reflection, a judicious application of hungry ursines might be just the thing!

    Frank says:

What the gorgo didn’t get them did it? I mean, wasn’t it having fun playing catch with Godfrey, Charlie and Philo?

I’m getting a strong All-of-Odyssius’s-Men-Died-on-their-voyage vibe from this.

  9. F
    Frank says:

He’d been a long time away from home and knew it was going to be a disaster from the onset. He was just glad to be away from effing Troy.
