  1. Petaybee says:

Hard to tell if that’s elation or disappointment in Charlie/The Author’s voice. ;P

    • Number 6 says:

They haven’t actually checked on the rest of the crew yet, who are probably all horribly injured or dead, so really it should be “And no one who actually has a name in the comic even died!”

  2. Luces says:

At least a praise! Admittedly, you could get stabbed with that one. I herewith call Charlotte solemnly a honorary Berliner (we suffer under the same flaw)

  3. Vince says:

If I remember correctly, Alice wasn’t invited on this little jaunt. It appears she has retained a woman’s right to kvetch, in spite of that fact.

    • Number 6 says:

Even if the whole expedition had been Alice’s idea from the start she would still complain about the result. She’s like that.

  4. Dreadogastus says:

The quips! They are like knives.
Now lets look out the window and see where we are.
    *HROOONNNN*
    What was that?
I don’t know but it sounded awfully large.

  5. Number 6 says:

I was thinking they were going to be tumbling end over end, but I guess it’s more like they just fell over on their side since the little ship icon was tipping? But then againt hey landed with the floor downwards? I’m not ure I understand how that happened? Yes, I know – “good engineering!”

    • mvandinter says:

There is a clue to this conundrum in the instrument itself. Note the sphere in the top portion of the the ship icon.

      • Thorin Schmidt says:

and all the crazy cog and gear mechanisms that were visible when they were climbing up to the cabin… It’s basically like those little water-filled compasses people used to buy to put on the car dashboard before the days of GPS. no matter which way the driller sits, the crew quarters and such stay level.

        • Number 6 says:

Aha! I see now. So the aristocrats (and their Butler, of course) up in the sphere area remain comfortably upright, while the commoners down in the engine room get slammed repeatedly from ceiling to floor to wall to floor to ceiling while being crushed as all those piled up wooden fuel logs are flung around the engine room. Brilliant! Nobody (important) gets hurt! 🙂

  6. Aslandus says:

So how were they planning to get out if the machine was engineered to always point down?

On second thought, Philo probably didn’t plan to come back…

    • Number 6 says:

Once they passed the midpoint of their journey up would become down so they would be fine once they popped up out of the ground in China. (Yes, I know China is not directly opposite from England – obviously they couldn’t go straight through the Earth’s core – that’s where the Lava Monsters live at!)
