Unearth | Chapter 2 Page 39

Personally, I need a captain more than I need a conscience, though having a conscience might be nice for a change.

This page is full of awesome banter. :3 Go Philo, you lay that smackdown… Even if it somehow involves insulting yourself.

If I didn’t consciously stop myself, I’d write nothing but endless banter… and the plot is progressing slowly enough as it is 😉 Maybe I should have made a talking-head comic strip instead.

      • Wisknort says:

        Oh my gosh yes.

This said, I read something that effectively said “if you’re making a talking heads comic, consider just dropping the image entirely”. Seems legit, it’d be less work on you… So you could post whenever you feel like it. I would read the heck out of it. Banter is awesome.

        • mvandinter says:

OK. Sounds good. I’ll stop working on Unearth right away!

          • Hornet says:

Hmm, talking head comic strip without visuals? Would that not be a BLOG???

Strangely enough, “Internet Play-Scripts” have never really caught on. So, whither then the Shakespeares and Ibsens of the Digital Age? Once, the words of writers were brought to life by ACTORS, men of breath, sinew and passion; today, by mere static mannequins of digital ink. [shakes head sadly and goes back to watching a cat jump in a box and fall over in an endless loop.]

              • mvandinter says:

The Shakespears and Ibsens of the digital age will likely be texting their masterpieces in abbreviated word snippets.

  2. Harrow says:

If I had a conscience I’d be doing my chores instead of sitting here reading Unearth.

    • mvandinter says:

Sooooo… you’re saying that the 33 seconds per week it takes to read Unearth is what’s keeping you from accomplishing all your goals in life? Maybe I’m reading too much into your comment. Or am I? 😉

  3. Uhl says:

Actually, considering who the fiance was, I don’t blame him for making that particular decision. Choosing a captain who is more knowledgeable about you than at being a captain is somewhat problematic, however.

    • mvandinter says:

Too true. I’ve had many many jobs, and it is indeed a curse to be an employee who knows more about your boss’s (i.e. captain’s) motivations than your boss does. Hence, the ‘many many jobs’.

This page makes me love Philo! Quite honestly, with all of the outgoing and rather loud characters which surround him, he hadn’t made much of an impression on me before.

  5. Wyvern says:

He should have said: “So you agree with me! You DO need a conscience more than you need a captain.”

  6. Custom avatarwintermute says:

“Thus proving I am an idiot?”

Precisely. Philo seems to have a good grasp on the situation, even though he is in denial and doesn’t want to admit it. 😉

  7. Luces says:

The point of “returning at once and giving Roddy a good one before starting again as planned” doesn’t seem to hoover in the background.
Is it simply not possible or is any place better than near the dreaded women?
( Hah! I avoided the name. One for me!)

    • mvandinter says:

Congratulations on avoiding saying the dreaded name! We are talking about Matilda the cook from the Prologue, right?

  8. davidbreslin101 says:

Nice body language on Philo- a slight defensive hunch, and eyes fixed firmly on the dials. He is, in fact, reading one of those old-fashioned gas meters where the dials read in alternate directions and you round up or down depending on if there’s an “R” in the month.

    • mvandinter says:

The meters my be old fashioned to you, but to Philo they are technological marvels!

P.S. Speaking of technological marvels, do you suppose the driller has flushing toilets?

  9. Wisknort says:

This much later and I still get chances to reference this page.

    😀
